COLD!!
But only for about 4-5 months of the year. Other than that it
is very sunny and HOT. This summer the temperature peaked one
hot and humid Sunday afternoon at 99F - too hot to do anything,
but find some nice shady trees.
Although it does get exceptionally cold here, as long as you
are dressed correctly it doesnít seem too bad ñ and it is very
dry, so you and your dog donít end up damp and wet. The snow
falling is amazing, especially when it is sunny, as you can
see each individual snowflake drop and the sun catches them
and they glisten. The other stunning phenomena are the Aurora
Borealis. Fairbanks is the best place in the world to see them,
but because it wasnít cold enough this year we have only seen
the green auroras and not the pink/purple ones. We have to be
very careful of leaving Brodie in the car during the winter,
even for 30 minutes, due to the cold. And now we have to be
careful as summer approaches as he really suffers in the heat
- Brodie is one Wheaten who definitely prefers cold weather.
Due to the amount of daylight and the consistent temperatures
summers in Alaska are very beautiful ñ lush green grass, masses
of flowers and blue sunny skies. Brodie is now getting reacquainted
with grass and our walks are taking even longer due to all the
lovely new smells.
